I've never seen a game with an unfinished main story- though I have seen demos which eventually became full releases (Octopath, Triangle Strategy, etc.) and I have seen plenty of places where quality was cut for the sake of releasing the main story.
That most certainly cuts out most of the story-based game market, including Outer Wilds and FE3H. The second is "not the type of game where the highest priority is releasing a finished main story". I think it's safe to say that neither of those games are ongoing since they do not have regular updates. Nor is Fire Emblem Three Houses, which had a total of four(?) feature updates, adding the ability to feed animals and the sauna, and one DLC with a new sidestory. Outer Wilds, which had its first and only planned DLC Echoes of the Eye released in 2021, is not receiving regular updates with new content. "Regular" means "with constant frequency". The first is "regularly updated with new content".
There are a few important phrases here that I want to point out. That's easy, we'll use Yanderedev's explanation. Time to analyze that argument and disprove it.įirst, it's important to define what an ongoing game is. On his anniversary post, Yanderedev claims that Yandere Simulator is an ongoing game, and compares it to Genshin Impact, one of the most popular games out there right now. So if I get some things wrong about Genshin's lore or plot, please correct me! Same with any of the other games I mention. Let me preface this by noting that while I know a lot about Genshin, and I enjoy discussing it with friends, I don't actually play it- my sibling does, though, and we talk about it all the time.
